KEYBOARDING

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:                  Keyboarding offers basic instruction on an electric/electronic alpha-numeric keyboard, ten-key numeric data-entry pad, spreadsheets and data base.

 

MICRO COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE: This course is designed to increase the students awareness of how the computer is used in today’s business society.  This course will be dealing with spreadsheets, data base applications, desktop publishing, internet and hyper studio.

PRE-ALGEBRA

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE: This course is inclusive of the topics taught in Algebra I only on a more elementary level and is used as a stepping stone from 8th Math to Algebra I, if needed.

  CALCULUS

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:  This course begins with a review of the concept of functions, absolute value, open and closed intervals.  It is followed by an introduction to limits, limits of a function, continuity, derivatives, integrals, sequence and power series and techniques of differentiating polynomials.

 

EXPLORING TECHNOLOGY

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:                  This course is geared to the 7th and 8th grade student and explores the technical areas of communication, construction, manufacturing, and transportation through a series of video lessons and short term projects to challenge and enlighten the student about our ever changing technical society.

 

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:   A course designed to study the general concepts of current technologies and their applications through a variety of short term projects.  These projects are designed not only to introduce emerging technologies, but also to strengthen decision-making and problem solving skills.

   

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:  This course involves an in depth study into a specific area of technology.  The students will select the project suited for that topic.  The topic and project of choice will determine if this is a semester or a year course of study in that area of technology.

   

WELDING

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:   This is an introductory level course to develop skill in Gas and Arc welding of mild steel.  The student will perform a series of practice welds to develop these skill.

 

ADVANCED WELDING

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:   This course is designed to further develop welding skill and will emphasize project building with mild steel.

   

WORLD GEOGRAPHY

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:  We start out covering basic geographic facts and a brief U.S. unit.  Then we cover as many world areas as time permits:  Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Australia, and Africa.  Each area has a basic worksheet, plus a map, and a possible written assignment.  Area maps and quizzes are frequent.  There is a list of basic vocabulary words to be learned.  Unit tests follow one to two regions.

   7-8 COMPUTER

  PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:  This course is twofold in that it teaches computer literacy as well as elementary programming skills.  Literacy involves knowledge of computers and their applications. 

 

SPANISH I

 

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:  This course is an introduction to Spanish covering the following topics: verbs in the present and preterit past tense, irregular verbs in those tenses, stem-change and spelling changes in verbs and formal and to commands.  In addition there is agreement of nouns and adjectives in number and gender, uses of  por and para, basic conversational phrases and skills, and beginning vocabulary covering family, places, food, clothing, etc. 

SPANISH II

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:                  This course is a review of Spanish I along with the following topics:  imperfect past tense, future tense, subjunctive and conditional tenses, irregular verbs in these tenses, comparisons of adjectives and nouns, reflexive verbs, conversational skills, and continued vocabulary development.
