BUSINESS MATH

Length:

Purpose: Provides intermediate and advanced knowledge of the 10-key pad/calculator and mathematical business applications in a sequence of courses designed to train students for entry-level careers in business and industry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DRIVERS' ED

Length: 1 semester

Purpose: This class requires four hours behind the wheel of the car and thirty hours of observation.  We study from the book, learning all the maneuvers and actions necessary to become a good driver and then put them to practice in the car

Purpose: Biology is the study of living organisms and their environment.  The course will mix zoology and botany in a comprehensive study of the organisms that inhabit the earth.  Special emphasis will be placed on the physiology and anatomy of the human body as well as biotechnology.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Purpose: Physical Science is a general science course that introduces chemistry and physics.  A wide variety of topics are examined from matter to nuclear chemistry.  Special emphasis is placed on motion, forces, energy, patterns in matter, electricity, magnetism, introductory chemistry and astronomy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JUNIOR HIGH P.E.

Purpose: Mixes the development of endurance, strength, and agility, with coordination, balance and mental awareness of how the body functions.  Emphasis is placed on physical fitness, and skills used in team and individual recreational sports.  Strategies and techniques used to improve performance are introduced at this level.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ELEMENTARY SCIENCE

Purpose:

11TH U.S. HISTORY

Room: 108

Purpose:  This class is an overall study of the political, geographic, and cultural development of the United States.  A traditional approach is used, which covers a chronological time segment’s major events and people, emphasizing cause and effect.  Note taking is stressed, and there is a weekly list of terms/people to know, along with an essay, on a quiz each week.  Also projects, reports or outside readings are required each quarter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENGLISH III

Room: 108

Purpose: This class focuses on American literature and writing.  Selections by American authors, arranged chronologically to correspond with the American history class will be read, examined, and discussed.  Summaries of these selections will be written in a notebook.  Writing assignments will include expository papers, short articles or stories, and a short research paper.  Vocabulary and outside reading are also class requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CWP

Room: 108

Length: 1 year

Purpose: After an introductory unit that covers how the U.S. makes foreign policy, the basic terminology, and country and other key map locations, this class focuses on each of the major regions of the world.  Daily assignments include answering think or content questions, written summaries of scholastic articles or notes on crises, and highlights of newspaper current event articles.  Each quarter has a special assignment, such as:  1st quarter--weekly map quizzes;  2nd quarter--propaganda notebook;  3rd quarter--current events notebook;  4th quarter--social issues notebook.  Students are expected to keep up to date on current events, and newspaper articles are used for the notebooks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8TH HISTORY

Purpose:  This course is a chronological survey course of American history starting with the explorers.  Worksheets, book questions, and other related assignments help stress key information in the textbook.  Current events, maps, vocabulary, special reports, quizzes, and unit tests also make up part of the class work.

Purpose: One major focus of Sophomore English is writing, which includes work on editing skills, vocabulary, and basic grammar.  A classic novel is read as a class assignment, and other literature includes Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, contemporary plays, short stories, and poetry.  Outside reading is also part of the class content.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

K-2 P.E.

Purpose:  This class combines physical fitness with the development of coordination and group cooperation for grades 3-6.  Both team and individual sports and games are incorporated, with an introduction to the basic rules.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WASHINGTON STATE HISTORY

Length: 1 semester

Purpose:  This course covers the history of the state of Washington, from its early pioneer beginnings as part of Oregon Territory up to its creation as a state in the late 19th century through its early years and to its current state in the 21st century.  We also briefly cover resources and state government.  Basic map work of the area is stressed.  Daily work mainly consists of dittos, short writing assignments, maps, and chapter quizzes.  Unit tests follow three to four chapters.  Chapters are short and usually take three days each.  We finish the book in one semester.

Purpose:  The student will learn to design and draft floor plans, elevations, plot plans, electrical plans and selected detail drawings for residential dwellings.  Time permitting, the student will construct a scale model of the house they designed.

PHYSICS

Purpose:  A branch of science which studies physical relationships and topics such as simple and complex machines, electricity, energy and wave mechanics, velocity and acceleration.  Prerequisite: B or better in Algebra I  and/or Algebra II.  Taught every other year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

H.S. P.E.

Purpose: 

ALGEBRA I

Purpose:  Algebra is the study of ideas and procedures from arithmetic, extended to include variables and unknown quantities.  The study includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of real numbers including one and two unknowns.  Functions and quadratic equations will also be studied.

PRE-CAL/SR. MATH

Purpose:  This course is a primer for calculus by reviewing algebraic and geometric skills needed for calculus.  It covers trigonometry in depth as well as vectors, sequences and series.

Senior

GEOMETRY

Purpose:   This course is the study of figures, both 2 and 3 dimensional.  Basic assumptions, or postulates, are made about the figures and theorems are derived.  This course is applicable to many problems occurring in everyday life and encourages logical and analytical thinking.

ALGEBRA II

Purpose: This course reviews and studies in more depth Algebra I concepts including trigonometry, which is the study of the parts of a right triangle, as well as analytic geometry, such as conic sections, are introduced within familiar topics.  Other areas of study include matrices, logarithms, sequences and series.

8TH MATH

Purpose:  This course is a basic and simple introduction to Algebra.  Topics of study include: variables, integers, rational numbers, decimals, equations and basic geometry concepts.  Interlaced with these topics is a review of general arithmetic concepts.

ENGLISH IV

Purpose:  Senior English, a required course, emphasizes English Literature from the Anglo-Saxon period to modern day writing.  Analysis of selection is the basis for in-class assignments.  Writing and reading of English novels is an integral part of the course.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7TH GEOGRAPHY

Purpose:  This course mainly involves the history and geography of the Eastern Hemisphere.  Worksheets and other related assignments cover the information in the textbook.  Maps, vocabulary, special reports, current events, quizzes, and unit tests also make up part of the class work.

ENGLISH I

Purpose:  Freshman English is designed as a review of basic grammar and the expanding of vocabulary.  Writing skills are emphasized by keeping a writing notebook.  The literature text introduces students to a wide variety of authors and styles of writing.  Third quarter is spent doing a modified research paper.  Students are required to read four classic novels during the term.

J.H. HOME EC

Purpose:  Explores concerns or interests of younger students as they face the challenge of understanding themselves, the people around them, and managing their personal lives and resources.  The seventh grade emphasis is on self-esteem, family relationships and consumer protection.  The eighth grade emphasis is on personal relationships, coping with life situations and use of resources.
